OCC's Women's Basketball team celebrates winning the Region II Championship.
OCC's Women's Basketball team celebrated winning the Region II championship Sunday. The Lazers defeated Jefferson Community College 72-54 on their home court.

Onondaga Community College's Women's Basketball team earned its third straight trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, defeating Jefferson Community College 72-54 in Watertown in the Region III Championship game. Kate Grainger (Home Schooled, from Fayetteville) was named Region III Tournament MVP. Teammate Brianna Weaver (C-NS HS) was named to the All-Tournament team.

With Sunday's victory, the Lazers clinched a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament. The pairings will be announced this Wednesday at 3 p.m. Only 12 teams will participate in the tournament March 13-16 in Rochester, Minnesota. The Lazers own a 28-2 overall record, and a 9-game winning streak.

  • Scoring - Cianna Papineau (Lafayette HS), 10.7 ppg
  • 3 Point Shooting - Mallory Brooks (C-NS HS), 44 made
  • Rebounding - Precious Gabriel (Johnson City HS), 6.9 rpg
  • Assists - Avianna Baker (Onondaga HS), 4.4 apg
  • Blocks - Tori Jacobs (Massena HS), 1.6 bpg
  • Steals - Cianna Papineau (LaFayette HS), 3.0 spg

The Lazers are led by Head Coach Kelly Seibt who is in her third season. She's a 2011 graduate of OCC who played her high school basketball at Auburn where she was a 1,000 point scorer.
