What You'll Learn
When you pursue music at Onondaga, you'll get the freedom to express yourself musically in a wide variety of performing ensembles. Elective courses include Ethnic Music, Music Composition, Music Technology, Music Business, Improvisation, Diction for Singers, and Music Education.
What It's Like
Classes are small, so you'll be sure to get individual attention throughout your journey at Onondaga. If you're looking to share your passion for music with other student musicians, we have 12 ensembles that perform alone, and in partnership with other professional ensembles across Central New York. In addition, public concerts are held every Friday during the College Hour. The concerts feature performances by the college's music students, faculty members, and visiting musicians.
Where You'll Go
After graduation, you may decide to apply your talents in the workplace immediately, or transfer to an undergraduate program at a four-year college. Our music students are routinely accepted at some of the country's most prestigious music schools, such as the Eastman School of Music, Ithaca College, SUNY-Potsdam, SUNY-Fredonia and Syracuse University. Career possibilities include orchestral or studio musician, composer, teacher, musicologist, music therapist, instrument repair technician and a variety of positions in music business and the recording arts.
